DevonCM (Devon Connection Manager)

Management Software for the IBM Workstation Blade

DevonCM is software that manages the connection between the Devon IT TC10/IBM CP20 desktop access device and the IBM HC10 Workstation blade. In complex environments, the ability to manage these dynamic connections is crucial. DevonCM allows administrators to quickly define how they want to connect clients to remote workstations. It supports both fixed and free seating. It also allows administrators to automatically discover new HC10 and TC10/CP20 devices, monitor connections, and update firmware.

Free seating is a key feature of DevonCM. Free seating provides the ability to login to an HC10 workstation blade from any TC10/CP20 in various locations – there is no need to move the TC10/CP20. Additionally, workstation blades can be arranged in pools and can be based on workstation capabilities: hardware configuration, application availability, etc. Appropriate blade assigned based on a user’s profile and there can be more users than workstation blades, enabling companies to reduce costs by not requiring a one-to-one assignment of hardware.

Through DevonCM a user on a TC10/CP20 thin client is connected to a HC10 workstation blade over the corporate intranet either with free seating in which connection broker software assigns a user to a workstation blade or fixed seating in which a TC10/CP20 is connected to the same HC10 each time. DevonCM connects HC10s and TC10/CP20s using PC-over-IP™ technology.
